No, it raises the bar, because the bar was about as far down as it can get due to media attention and representation. Apple's decision, speaking from an advertising perspective, to demonstrate to people the attenuation issues present in all phones, seeks to strike out the negative that our mothers have been hearing about while the rest of the phone continues to shine for itself. Besides, what would the alternative be? Pretending the attenuation doesn't exist? What would be a representation of holding to the highest standard? Saying they're the best in this regard? That would be a lie. And they couldn't ignore the issue.

Its Music. Music now a days contains some curse words. There were no 5 year olds in that audience. 5 year olds are not going to watch a keynote. Everyone in that audience has heard the word and are mature enough to handle it. Just because he doesn't like Bush doesn't mean he's a bad person. Its his opinion. I have mine too...

iBeard, you're assuming that the only thing a larger screen is good for is movies/tv. With a 4" screen on the pod, you have a larger viewing area for more than movies/tv. You have it for games, pictures, chat(when available), text, better view of album artwork, and so on. It may not be for you because you may only use your pod for music, but you gotta admit there's a huge market for it.

Anyone else hate the ugly purple square around the arrows? What purpose do they serve?
I do think there should only be "ups", but the icon could be a checkmark. When you click it some subtext would appear below/next to it. Something like "You liked this comment" or "You agree with comment" or "This comment was helpful".
Probably the first of the 3 suggestions is best, because it covers much broader scenarios. Additionally you could also break it down into different buttons like a "agree" button and a "helpful" button, but maybe we want to just keep it simple.
Also, I still think it would be good to accrue the number of "likes", "agrees", or "helpful", or whatever it would be to help the member obtain different statuses.

Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't the Windows Live Marketplace in Windows Vista a integrated (badly integrated but still integrated), App Store before it was discontinued due to lack of consumers and made to redirect to a Microsoft website that sold some products?
I believe Microsoft did partner with Digital River to bring 3rd party products to such a store. However it was badly organized, poorly promoted and ultimately drew little business as you indicate since it offered customers little or no benefit over direct purchases from the developer. Developers lost interest. It morphed into the current MS/DR relationship where DR handles much of the on-line sales of MS products.
I sort of hope developers lose interest in the Mac App Store as well. ;) Unfortunately, consumers love the basement pricing.

They may think it's cracked, but they'll find that things like the tuning tables for Logic's software instruments are all out of tune rendering the instruments useless. I'll guess that there are many other subtle little things the developers do to purposely screw up Logic Pro when it's not run with the actual XSkey (dongle), even if someone attempts to use a virtual dongle as a substitute. I'm glad they do because it keeps the value in my investment.

Apple will need to open up osX to generic PC's but i can understand they'll want to wait until the Mac growth is stalling. Maybe at about 10% marketshare ?

This rumor should sound familiar to anyone that followed Dell and their long courtship with Intel. One analyst/pundit after another announced a rumor that Dell would put AMD into their grey boxes and year after year they were wrong (until this year :) ).
But seriously, I would welcome this move. Keep Intel (C2D, C2Q, and future) on the high end Pro models, use AMD with ATI integrated chipsets on consumer models. Or if/when it happens switch so that whatever is the best performing cpu/chipset combo is in the Pro line and vice versa.

Their opinions aren't what bothers me. People are free to have whatever opinion they like. But when they constantly come into threads with no intention of discussing the topic at hand, only to remind us of what their opinion is for favorite brand, that is troublesome, and behavior that does NOT need defending. Very interesting thread. It's a shame that you cant narrow it down to just one house. I'd be straight over, and the door would be kicked in. But...You dont really know whats on the other side of that door, so you should really take the police route. Then you can see the door be hoofed in. :D

I liked it. I was happy with the update to the AppleTV - I think I'll finally get off the fence and buy one. The Capsule seems interesting. The MBA is outside of what I want to spend, but it's pretty awesome nonetheless.
It would have been nice to see updated specs on the Mini and other notebooks, but hey, you can't have everything! :)
