As you may know, we are just one more week away from hosting Advocacy day in Washington DC where about 170 members of Immigration Voice will conduct nearly 250 meetings with offices of Senators and Congressmen. Such events cost money. If we have enough contributions, we can spend as per our budget of nearly $ 50,000. If not, we will have to cut back on the event spending and reduce the magnitude and size of the event.
If you are not coming to DC next week, please do your part and contribute funds to Immigration Voice. It not only finances the event properly, it instills pride and confidence in the members who will be there in DC that there are thousands of willing supporters behind them who could not be there physically but are 100% with them in their determination and resolve.

I agree that MBa can help your career but I am not sure what kind of return I can get for 3 years and 50 K.

In my opnion starting your own business is always a good idea, of course with uncertainities with GC process it is another risk added to the enterprise.
In my opinion, doing an MBA from a good school can open up doors to further growth in a comapny. With jsut technical skills it can get stagnated.
Age should not be a restraint, but with age comes other responsibilities of familiy etc, those could be more limiting.
I think doing MBA from a good institute is good idea, India is really humming and has lot of growth opportunities for MBAs.

I am glad to see that is so much documented material out there that puts the rights of all individuals clearly regardless of immigration status.
I wish people would come forward and participate in efforts of their choice and speak up against unfair system, thru IV or otherwise, and not be afraid of getting fired and getting deported or being a victim of prejudice by USCIS just because they posted a thread on IV, or contributed funds or met a lawmaker to petition them for pains.
There are a lot of visitors of the site(who wont even register on this site) who have such apprehensions and doubts and posts like yours help clear those doubts and help them join this effort and strengthen our hands.

EAD & AP is luxury & aggressive. Keeping H1B active is being conservative and playing with probability and backup. It depends on your nature. Go for it!!
If you are planning on a big investment like buying a home or something like that. It is better to stay on H1B so you have a backup if something goes wrong with GC.
I have seen problems with cases using AC21 when they apply it asking for more details and also sometimes ur I-140 is revoked by your sponsoring employer and USCIS may trigger a NOID for you. Ofcoourse you can file MTR and prove that them that it is legitimate to change jobs using AC21, but if you have H1B also then you have a piece of mind.
Also for the first job change use AC21 and do H1B transfer also and see for 6 months so that USCIS is already aware that you ve changed company. You can address any RFE/NOID. But later on you are on ur own.

Speakers urged the audience, many of whom are undocumented immigrants, to call their elected officials in support of the Kennedy-McCain immigration reform bill. Currently before the Senate, the measure would allow undocumented immigrants to remain in the United States and earn a chance to apply for permanent residency. An alternative bill that already passed the House of Representatives would turn the country�s 11 million undocumented immigrants into criminals, subject to arrest by local authorities. �If you are an undocumented immigrant in the United States, at the moment you have two choices: You can either stay put and hide, or you can lose everything you have,� said Kelly Fincham, executive directors of the newly formed Irish Lobby for Immigration Reform, which organized the meeting at St. Mary�s Help of Christians Catholic Church. Fincham urged those in attendance, even ones who cannot vote, to call or e-mail their U.S. senators and representatives and ask them to vote for the Kennedy-McCain bill. �Do you really want your future to be decided behind closed doors in Washington, or do you want to have a voice?� she asked. An early indicator of the success of her group, formed in December, was the attendance of U.S. Sen. Charles Schumer, who received a standing ovation after addressing the Friday meeting. �If we were to cut off immigration in this country within two, three or four generations, we would become a tired, stagnant, stratified society,� he said. New York �is a special place because of immigration and the worst we could do is close the door,� he added. Other speakers at the meeting urged audience members to sign up and bring their friends to a March 8 bus trip to lobby Congress in Washington, D.C. Groups from cities such as Boston will also be bused in. �This is about living a normal life without fear so you can go and enjoy life in the greatest country on earth,� said Naill O�Doud, chairman of the Irish Lobby for Immigration Reform. Congress is expected to pass sweeping immigration reform legislation later this year affecting America�s estimated 11 million undocumented immigrants, of whom around 40,000 are Irish. One version, which already passed the House of Representatives, is an �enforcement only� bill sponsored by Representatives James Sensenbrenner (R-Wis.) and Peter King (R-N.Y.). Known as the Border Protection, Antiterrorism, and Illegal Immigration Control Act, the measure makes it harder for legal permanent residents to become U.S. citizens by allowing government officials to deny naturalization applications based on subjective information or secret evidence. The measure intensifies sanctions against employers who hire undocumented immigrants and requires them to confirm the authenticity of their workers� Social Security numbers. It gives local police the power to enforce immigration laws and penalizes states and cities that protect confidentiality of immigrant crime victims and witnesses. Other provisions would make drunken driving a deportable offense and mandate the construction of five double-layer border fences at a cost of $3.2 million per mile. The Kennedy-McCain bill, known as the Secure America and Orderly Immigration Act, was introduced before the Senate last year by Senators Edward Kennedy (D-Mass.) and John McCain (R-Ariz.). The measure would permit undocumented or �illegal� immigrants currently living in America to obtain work visas for up to six years. They could apply for permanent residency after paying fines, passing a background check and completing a period under a temporary visa. The bill would also create a new path to legal immigration through a temporary worker program. Undocumented Irish immigrants present at the meeting said current laws prevent them from returning home to visit family. If you are successful, certain people will complain and make up stories how you became successful.
If you fail, the same people will makeup stories how dumb you are etc...
The best way, in my opinion, is to ignore these fools.
Those who are writing negative about IV and their leaders, do not have slightest idea on how much sacrifices they have made (family time, financially, physically, mentally etc) so that most of us could be benefited out of it. If these people think they are not benefited or does not like the idea, please don't read those post or just ignore them and move on, go to the posts that you would be benefited from and logout, I personally would like these people to share their experience and answer questions by others with their best of their knowledge, but if you can’t do that, please don't demoralize others.
And yes, I don't care about RED dots, so bring them on.

Logiclife, I am sorry you are wrong.You don't need to post hour by hour update, but the update you posted today on Aman's meetings , help people to understand what really IV is doing and are necessary atleast once a fortnight.I am sure you are working in a corporate world and drive projects.The first rule on driving a big project is status meetings once every week.This helps all the stakeholders.

US citizenship is a final stop for most/many immigrants. Post Sep 11, there has been a surge in nationalization applications because technically GC is like a long term visa to stay permanently. Therefore there is always a risk of losing GC because of DUI or other trivial or accidental issues etc.
Also post Sep 11, a lot of govt/sensitive projects that were available for GC only have been restricted to US Citizens. You lose a significant chunk of the available jobs market if you are a GC holder in the Maryland/DC/North Virgina area. In fact I know a lot of GC who kept their old passports but because of these hassles eventually decided for Naturalization.
Yes that is the one reason. Moreover i can get the Indian citizenship back by staying in India for 5 years on OCI card or PIO card. It is that simple. But Once i go back to India coming here is big problem. So I planned to take USC and Do an R2I later whenever i need or I want.
This week i became an USC after 9 years of stay in US. I can retain USC and stay in India. Came to US in 2000. Applied GC in 2002 Jan got the green card 2003 December with EB3

I received a sms saying that my case status has been updated (weird they sent it @ 9:25 pm PT). I was like here comes another biometrics appointment... but still let's check the status online. To my surprise and by god's grace, case status was changed to "Card/Document Production" (still cannot believe it). I dunno what triggered this but i did contact my Congressman yesterday. My wife's status has also changed to "decision" - should move to "Card production" soon.
My suggestion to all of you - please don't lose patience and do whatever you can from your end to expedite your case. It's your GC and you've to make sure you get it. Contact I/O, infopass and congressman/senator. Don't expect anything from your lawyers as they only care about money and it is in their best interest to see your case pending (more RFEs, EADs, APs, etc).

So far nothing. :mad:

I am pretty much in the same boat and I think the reason for most worrying is not your GC but the financial impact it might have on you.
Contact your insurance ( They will provide the lawyer for your defense) You will not need to pay for the services. If any damage is awarded more than your policy maximum that becomes your liability- But the onus of collecting is on the plaintiff - They cannot file criminal charges because you do not have money to pay- So your GC would not have issues though they can freeze your pay from the employer. All of this is provided that they dont settle out of court which they do lots of time.
The only request keep this thread updated through your progress so that others can refer to this if they happen to fall in the same position.

If any damage is awarded more than your policy maximum that becomes your liability- But the onus of collecting is on the plaintiff - They cannot file criminal charges because you do not have money to pay- So your GC would not have issues though they can freeze your pay from the employer. All of this is provided that they dont settle out of court which they do lots of time.

You want to know the "experiences" of people on how to take a photocopy ? I believe you got your GC in EB-2 category, so you should be skilled enough to know this.

Got a RFE for my spouse's TB test as it was not submitted at that time...
gcisadawg, remember, you can get from a pediatrician or whoever BUT as you know they should be "Certified" by USCIS for you to go get from them...dont forget that..and based on the links I referred to you earlier you dont have too many options abroad...basically a center where you may have to go and get there..
To avoid all these headaches I would go try to get more time by asking USCIS..

Folks - another update on my case.
As i had been following up my case with the help from my Senator's office, they requested USCIS to give a written decision on my MTR.
Here is the written decision that USCIS gave
"On March 27, 2009, you filed a motion to reopen. You indicated the use of the applicant's ability to "port" under section 106(c) of the American Competitiveness in the 21st Century Act (AC21). The requirements were met and the motion to reopen was approved.
CONCLUSION: It is concluded that the grounds stated for denial have been overcome.
ORDER: It is ordered that the motion to reopen be approved. The Form I-485 is "pre-adjudicated" awaiting visa availability."
I hope this encourages people to go ahead with AC21
