I live in Jersey City. I am planning to move to NYC. My company and job location stays the same. I have filed my I-485 (received July 23rd) with I-140pending. I don't have my I-485 receipt notice, only I-140 receipt.
1) Is it safe to change one's residence(different state) ?
2) How do I update my address for I-485 so that I get the receipt notice at the new address ? As far as I know USCIS stuff is not forwarded by USPS.

I was supposed to move couple of months ago to Stamford, CT (ninety miles form where I live and work now) but decided to stay after the July bulletin became current.I informed the apt mgmt that I want to extend the lease .
I didnt want to move after hearing horror stories from folks who did(Some of them did not get the FP notices, receipts and all that stuff).
Then sent in all the papers on July 2nd. USCIS came out and said we are not going to accept. I waited for a week. Nothing was happening so decided to move by the end of August.Called in the Mgmt and informed that I will move out by the end of August.
The came July 17th , when USCIS reversed their decision to accept. I called in the mgmt and told them some excuse and ask them to extend the lease by another month. Never ending uncertainity continues......

Hello experts,
I had my h1-b interview in Toronto on January 4, 2008 and got 221g yellow for administrative review. I called DOS one week ago for processing status and was told that name check is on pending. I called DOS today and was told that security check is on pending. Could you please let me know usually how many checks the DOS will do? How long the security will be done?

just now finished taking an appointment to chennai consulate. while it was painful, i didnot get any errors like you mention.
you need to save and submit the application.
it then takes you to a page where in you need to confirm how you want to receive the passport
once you select that you need to click on "continue" which will then take you to calendar where you can choose your specific dates.
i used IE
btw, make sure you type all addresses in one liner. if you try to indent [splitting in multiple lines] it doesnot showup in pdf form [shows only first two lines]

Google search on Portability with I-140 in "Approvable" condition.
That is your solution, incase you have to change employers before I-140 and 485 are approved, with 180 days passed.

I've not get EAD and AP and been waiting for last few months. My wife got both EAD and AP. Is it good idea to call USCIS I/O about my status of EAD and AP? I applied for all 485/EAD/AP in june last week and got the notice on Aug 15th. Please check my signature for more information.

To the best of my knowledge, people like us who are waiting for Green Card are NOT eligible for any sort of unemployment benefits.
Correct me if i were wrong.
Note: Even if one earns 40 credits of work @ 1 credit per quarter which is 3months & if that person is not either Perm Resident or citizen, THEN no way one can claim for any unemployment benefits.
Because i crossed that 40 credits already and still my SS benefits statement cleary says that i'm not eligible due to the fact that i'm NOT a perm resident a.k.a Green Card Holder

Thought you might interested in my case status. I have visited chennai consulate and my case was approved without any questions raised. They did not even asked any documents for verification. Speeding is a misdemeanor in some states and can cause a false alarm. Just recollect to see if you can recollect anything where you ran into the law even something minor??

Has anyone analyzed who would be an ideal president from our point of view? Does IV endorse any candidate?
In my opinion IV should not be "endorsing" any candidate and one among the many reasons could be, none of the members of IV have voting rights in this country! Why should IV even think of endorsing anyone in this scenario ?
I guess what you meant to ask was who amongst the current contestants does the IV leadership thinks would be pro legal highly skilled immigrant if he/she happens to get elected to the White House.
Please correct me if I am wrong with the above.

I was under the impression that the job title does not matter for AC21 as long as the job duties are similar. For example, instead of IT Manager, say, I get a title of Developement Lead/Team Lead and the Job duties are similar.
What happens in this case? Is it still risky to pursue AC21?

That has happened to me too. It's ok. I looked at the reciept notice and the date is the original reciept date not the one mentioned in update. Don't worry. If you are really concerned call your lawyer.

I remember one of my colligue got I-94 extended till visa period at Jacksonville, FLORIDA. I do not know which state you are living in. Anyway...atleast I know that is possible since you have valid visa stamped on your passport.

From this group it does not look like there is any rule followed by states as they follow CGFNS guidelines. It is just that USCIS has started using OOH for PTs. It looks like AILA will be filing something with USCIS.
My first question: you have been here for 5yrs on h1b then why did you not file green card under schedule A when it was current until Dec 2006? I am really surprised. You would have been on green card long time back. Actually I am even surprised that you did not go for masters even afer being here for 5years.
If there is any other way you can continue your presence in US then go for it. You just have to be patient for USCIS to start accepting what state boards accept while issuing licenses. If state boards do not mind foreign bachelors to practise PT then I don't understand why USCIS would care. I think its just another shot from USCIS to shoot immigrants out of this country.

They have deadlines for every semester and there is so much paperwork including exams, evaluations, proof of funding etc etc. So do talk to lawyer for your options to stay here, talk to school on how to enroll in masters, if your spouse is on h1 then get onto h4 by filing cos.
