The idea of paying $50 more makes some have a hissy fit while MOST are right to complain about it in a normal, reasonable way.
AT&T is obviously more than legally able to do this but it is obvious to anyone that they are doing it strictly to add more $ to their pockets. And the response to that will be that they are allowed to and that EVERYONE wants more money. Yes, and consumers are allowed to complain when companies do something STRICTLY to make them pay more.
There is really no reason for AT&T to do this other than to make consumers pay more. When AT&T does this, they should expect a backlash

You cut off the part where I was addressing those saying they were going to Verizon over this (which I call throwing a hissy fit since the only reason to do that cause they'll get even less of a early upgrade discount is cause you are wanting to spite AT&T). Who doesn't even let you get any discount for any early upgrades so in that respect they are worse than AT&T. So how does having a hissy fit and going to Verizon help those people who are that upset they are going to Verizon?

Up for sale is an Xbox 360 Core, still sealed, UK PAL. I will ship the the UK, and the UK only. It is currently on eBay here (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=8240818983). The right offer here (I realise my Buy it now price in the auction isn't realistic) wins it, and I will cancel the auction. Alternatively, you can bid the in auction. I have no specific price in mind, just make an offer - worst I can do is reject it.

Doubtful since their warranty does not transfer to a second hand buyer. If I were to buy an iPod and then sell it on ebay a few weeks later the new owner would not be covered.
Hmm, Well If I want to try out an item and then resell it later I ask the retailer for a gift receipt which doesn't list a name, but just a price & Date of Purchase. Then when I sell it I just include the gift receipt to the buyer and the warranty is good for them also.

Just wondering if anyone agrees. That amount of data isn't that big when you think about it..

It definitely does ... i spend way too much time here. Better spent here than in other unproductive forums. Macs (here) and audio (osxaudio) are the only things that get me to post. :D

Just FYI I bolded out the most specific part. You do realize that there are still phones not capable of setting the time remotely? I still use an old Nokia phone that has no automatic time syncing.
Either you really think it's a trivial implementation to acquire a time-signal over the cell network or you just haven't grasped the concept of the patent.
The patent application has this to say about acquiring a time-signal over an established connection to a CDMA network...
the controller 110 (eg a microprocessor) extracts the system time, as well as various parameters, from the received sync channel message and stores the extracted data
